I ponder on the eve before the release of my new single, “Love Like You”, from my new EP, “Beautiful”, which itself is set for a mid-June release. I co-wrote this song with Margaret Becker. She also produced and sang background vocals for this song.
The process of songwriting can be daunting and fraught with writer’s block, but when you have a concept in mind with a melody, and you work alongside a pro, it makes the process more fun. As we sat down to discuss this song, we talked about the theme of the song. After bouncing around our thoughts, we narrowed and settled on writing about how we are to be like Christ especially while we are in the midst of our mess…having to forgive others when we feel that they don’t deserve it…all our emotions on high alert and the like. In these moments, we are called to be like Christ. So, in our prayers we ask, as the chorus of the song sings, “I wanna see like You see, love like You do, choose what You’d choose; grow me into grace and mercy, loving kindness, gentle goodness all just to love like You.” This theme carries a heavy weight and we wanted to offset it with a melody that was not strong in emotion as ballads may carry (and believe you me, I am a ballad girl), but one that was lighter in potency, yet driving enough…and “Love Like You” was born.
I hope that as you listen to this song that your moments in life come to mind. May the prayer within this song inspire you to allow healing into your life as mercy and forgiveness surround you and those you hold near and dear.
